Let's go, then! He doesn't live too far from here so finding him shouldn't be a problem.

[TIME TO GO INTO THE WOODS, exciting...]

Alright, please lead the way, then.

[ Because he sure doesn't know where they’re going right now. ]

Just this way!

[And away into the woods they'll trundle, until they get to a point where it's difficult to see back through the foliage and into the city itself. Around then, he'll pull what appears to be a little bar of granola out of a bag...]

V! V, c'mere!

[Silence...

And then a distant wark!]

Oh.

[ He has been around chocobos a few times before, but only to sketch them. He doesn’t actually know much about them. ]

[He's about to learn a little more, because here comes V, barreling out of the nearby bramble...! He's very large and very grey, unfortunately.]

V! Here you go, get over here.

[V also apparently loves food, since he immediately trots over to snatch up that oat bar with a happy wark.]

[ Since Koutarou doesn't know if the bird was grey or not before, it’s fine that it’s grey. ]

He’s very big.

Right? Isn't he cute?

[MAYBE NOT THE RIGHT WORD...]

D'you wanna feed him a little after the race? We can start at this rock and go over to that tree.

Quite so.

[ Though he honestly prefers horses because this with chocobo's doesn't ever stop feeling weird - it's nothing against chocobo's, it's just the entire art history having been changed, which. he. hates. But still, each to ones own and all that. ]

It would give me an opportunity to get to know him at least a little bit, at least. [ Is that the race track? ] Okay...

[Kashuu also isn't too fond of chocobos on a whole, honestly. Mostly just V, who he became ridiculously attached to for no real reason...]

You'll like him! He's really sweet.

[And he'll start leading V over to the "starting line" now... This janky race track.]

Should we do a three-two-one countdown?

[ He smiles at both of them, and follows Kashuu and V. ]

I suppose. But, um, how is this supposed to work, exactly?

[ Do they compete against the chocobo. That's also a chocobo race. Sort of. ]

[THAT IS... a very good question.]

I guess we could race him? We'd definitely lose, though... Or someone could ride on him and race the clock instead!

[Both are certainly types of races!]

Well, seeing how far behind or how close we come could be something we could see, by racing him. He would not be spooked by that?

Nope! Probably not, anyway... We've run all over the place with him and he mostly just gets upset if you drop his food on the ground.

[Which is why he's extra careful handling V's treats now...]

That’s good to know. It would be a shame for food to go to waste. But if he won’t get scared of it then maybe we could do that.

Mm, yeah! It should be fine.

[SHOULD BE.

But no it'll be fine, V is hard to spook! He'll lead him on over to their appointed starting space.]

You can do the honors of the countdown!

Okay. Ah, on 'go' then.

[ They just have to line up then, right? So once that's done... ]

Three, two, one, go!

[ And, well, he's actually pretty fast and nimble, which probably will help in this case. ]

[V also just seems content to play along, and starts running when they do just because?! Why not, probably.]

Wow! You're fast!

[V IS ALSO FAST so it looks like this'll be a competition between him and a zoomin' chicken, since Kiyomitsu falls behind pretty quickly. Mostly because he doesn't want to risk breaking a heel out here in the woods...]

[ The weirdest chicken race. He doesn't get the chance to just run very often these days though, it's nice to do it. ]

Would you believe me if I said I was on my school's track team?

[ Which he wasn't. He was not in any club, because he was supposed to go back home to the dojo to train. But maybe he asks it rather than states it because it's not entirely common for artists to be on track. ]

With a pace like this? Totally!

[People don't usually expect fashion designers to have a history with competitive kendo either, so maybe that's why he can accept the idea so easily, even if it's not true. There's something to be said about keeping fit and creative energy, anyway - a good run or workout always helps him clear his head before designing.

V is a fortunate simple chicken soul and doesn't need to worry about complex things like that, though. He's just running his chicken way through the woods, doing his chicken best.]

[ That’s a relief. And understandable. It wasn’t like he hated martial arts, but it was never what he wanted to do with his life (which his father couldn’t forgive), and it’s nice to have an excuse that someone would believe.

But it’s not like it’s actually possible to compete with a chocobo, as long as you’re human and not somebody with unnatural speed, so the chocobo is still going to win. ]

[AND WIN HE DOES. Good work, V... V keeps running for a little bit, not understanding the basic concept of a race, but stops when he realizes he's not being tailed by Kashuu anymore.]

Ah, good work, good work! A predictable outcome but not bad at all.

[ V might not have practiced racing people before.

Koutarou rubs a hand through his hair. ]

Yeah. Chocobos really does run fast.

[He gets an A for effort and a gold star for trying, anyway. And soon some treats, too!]

Right? It's super impressive! Too bad we'd look like weirdos just riding 'em around in the streets, they'd be faster than biking.

We’re probably the only ones who would think so. There is police who use them, at least.
