I'm good, I've been taking lots of walks recently. You?

Who am I married to now?

Good. I had half the force in my living room to exchange information so now I'm hiding for a few days with Daisuke.

And you're not married, but you and Ardyn must have had some kind of tryst.

Did you get a lot of information exchanged? Learn anything new? Are you hiding with food as well?

Oh, I see! That must have been quite some tryst.

There is food and tea. I've even been cooking in, because I am so sick of delivery food.

It was interesting to learn what the other groups went through. Even the people who went into the 'unreality storm' as Retrospec called it. They ended up in places that it feels like Retrospec has also been, because they brought back clues about what's been happening here.

The Four Founders of Recolle seem to keep coming up, by name. The whole founding of this city might go back to Retrospec. We just didn't notice until they let us notice. Which is bad enough to think about.

Delivery food can get tiresome. Should I cook you something, too?

That far back? How old is Retrospec, really...

I am never going to say no to that question, Koutarou.

And that's turning out to be one of the big questions. Has it been a part of the city all along? Is it the real reason the city is here, like some people are thinking?

I don't know.

Then what would you like? I'll get something for Daisuke, too.

It seems absurd, but most things does, these days. But whichever it is, there's the question of why, still. What they get from all this.

Daidai treats and Toga treats, yesss. Um, something that you've got lying around, don't go to too much trouble?

I think it's power. So. Remember how we kept bringing back those items from the unreality areas? The pearls and coins and stuff? And Joanne needed those items, those things that somehow still existed when the places that they were from didn't exist any more? And she could use those to give people the powers.

It makes a strange kind of sense, but I don't get it.

Alright, I'll have to take a look at what I have so we'll see what we end up with.

Would that mean their power increase or decrease when we get powers, items and "memories".

Um.

All right. Hang on, let's think this through. It is probably costing them power to retrieve these things, right? But maybe the memories are giving them power back more?

So, if they need us to remember things in order to rebuild these other worlds. Then maybe it gets easier? Or maybe they are getting more power through the memories? But where did this all start, then?

And because we get memories more often than we get items, changes and such, they might be gaining more than they lose, in which case it explains why they would install the app on more people’s phones. But that might mean that they get more power from each memory than they lose for each thing.

I don’t know. When was this city founded?

Uh, 193...something? 1930? Close enough?

I'm not sure how to prove any of this, but it's a neat theory? And you're right, that's why they're grabbing as many of us as they can manage.

That is a while ago, if it really started at the time.

It's not like it's possible to prove any of the theories. Disprove some, I guess, but proving something is harder. At least in this case.

But that means that they're unlikely to stop dragging people into this whole thing.

Can we. Okay. This is ridiculous, but can we pretend for a second that they're right? Each one of us on the app, or for that matter, everyone who has been on the app, is from some other world. There's got to be a maximum number of us eventually.

That's the problem with us jumping in the middle here. Ugh. 80 years, that's long enough to have tried this before.

Alright, we can do that. In that case, I wonder how many come from the same and how many different worlds people have been brought here from.

80 years is a lifetime. The can't have used phone apps at the start if this started around the same time as the town was founded.

There have been a few clusters of people. Remember Professor Ardyn? There are two other people that he remembers, they all seem to know each other.

Geez, you're right. So either they've tried this before with other technology, or they had to wait for local technology to get good enough that they could have the access they needed to all of us? Hmm.

Of course. Three people remembering each other and having known each other? That's new.

I guess it depends on how good they are at waiting. But they could have used other things like special newspaper, or something.

Ardyn, and two of his students, Prompto, I think everybody's talked to. Noctis was with us for the first part of the investigation last month. Ardyn said he's remembered him, too, Noctis remembered Prompto.

I'm putting that question on the list for if we ever get a chance to talk to Maurice again. How did they try this before? Is there something they needed to get people talking to each other? When we were down there, it was like I couldn't think of the right questions.

And, well, I kept getting angry.

I'm not sure if he would know. Unless they let the intern know about the whole history of it. He seems to know a fair bit about some things but still.

You do forget yourself when you get angry. But none of us could think of all the questions that might have become necessary to ask now.

Despite his 'intern' title, Joanne said she knew Maurice from a long ways back. Maybe they've both been around a while. Worth a gamble.

I'm still grateful you were there to keep me calmed down. It didn't help that James was right there, what they've put that kid through is one of the biggest reasons I'm angry with them.

No reason to lose my head, though.
